AUGUST STRINDBERG SPECIAL
Mark Lawson presents a special edition on the controversial 19th century Swedish polymath August Strindberg.
Best known for plays such as Miss Julie and The Dance of Death, he was also a painter and photographer who dabbled in alchemy and the occult. Strindberg was accused of anti-semitism and misogyny and was never awarded the Nobel prize he felt he deserved.
As A Dream Play opens at the National Theatre and a major exhibition of his paintings is at Tate Modern, Mark goes to Stockholm to explore Strindberg's extraordinary life and work.
A Dream Play is at the National Theatre and runs concurrently with the August Strindberg exhibition at Tate Modern from 17 February - 15 May.
Caryl Churchill's new version of A Dream Play is published by Nick Hern Books.
The Oxford Stage Company is performing Strindberg's Easter in Southampton, Eastbourne, London and Lichfield from 17 March - 07 May.
Further information about Strindberg including photographs of his final apartment can be found at
