CANOEING and RIVERSÌý

Sandi Toksvig travels downstream with Robert Twigger who has navigated his way over the Rocky Mountains in a canoe made the traditional native way out of birch bark.Ìý He followed the route of Alexander McKenzie the first European to cross the continent of North America.

Canoe guide Peter Knowles describes his kayaking journeys along some of the great rivers of the world from the Ganges to the Zambezi.

Sandi is also joined by science journalist Fred Pearce to assess the worrying implications for rivers as our ever increasing thirst for water means more and more of it is being siphoned off from the world's waterways.Ìý Will the rivers run dry?

Presented by Sandi Toksvig
