BISHI Ìýis a singer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ. Known for being the face and DJ of the club 'Kashpoint',Ìýher music is a blend of traditional instruments and folk influences with electronic beats and strong melody creating an ethereal and unique sound. This year she was nominated for the 'Times Breakthrough Award' at the South Bank Show Awards. She is performing at Ìýwith LSO Strings on 26th June as part of the UBS Soundscapes: Eclectica series.
GILL HICKS
Gill Hicks was the last person to be rescued alive from the bombed train at Russell Square underground station in Central London on the morning of 7th July 2005.Ìý In her book One Unknown she tells of her experiences of that day and her remarkable recovery.ÌýÌýShe has since set upÌýÌýan initiativeÌýwhichÌýaims to bring together people who may otherwise never meet, never talk and, almost certainly, never walk side-by-side.Ìý They will be walking from Leeds to London during July and August. One Unknown is published by Rodale.
RAY MATERSON Ìýis an American, who whilst serving a long sentence for armed robbery, found redemption through embroidering the story of his life. He is now a major ‘outsider artist' and some of his work is being shown at The Fabric of Myth exhibition at , Warwickshire from 21st June until 7th September.
LISA GRAINGER
Lisa Grainger is a journalist who was born in Zimbabwe. She realised that the stories she'd learnt as a child in Africa were vanishing, so she set out on a journey to record them before it was too late. She spent several months travelling around Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa asking people to tell their favourite stories and has put them together in a book Stories Gogo Told Me. Stories Gogo Told Me is published by Penguin South Africa and is to be published in the UK in July.Ìý All proceeds from the book will go to .
