DAVID GRANN David Grann is a journalist and reluctant explorer who is obsessed with stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things. He became interested in the fate of the British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett who disappeared in the Amazon with his son Jack and Jack’s friend, Raleigh Rimmel, in 1925. He decided to follow in his footsteps and his book about the adventure The Lost City of Z has been published by Simon and Schuster.
FARIBA FARSHAD
Fariba Farshad is an Iranian curator and director of Candlestar, a cultural consultancy based in London. She has collaborated with the Day Art Gallery in Teheran to create an exhibition of 28 Iranian artists, over three generations, which is based on the theme of Sheherazade as the heroine of A Thousand and One Nights. The exhibition runs at the Mall Galleries, London between 9th - 14th March.
AYO is an Afro-German singer-songwriter. Her debut album Joyful, which was first released in 2006, reached Double-Platinum status in France, Platinum in Germany and Poland, Gold status in Switzerland and Italy and Greece. Her new album Gravity at Last is released by Wrasse Records. She will be performing at the ICA in London on 20th April.
MARK KITTO
Mark Kitto is a former Welsh Guardsman and metals trader in London. In his book China Cuckoo he tells of how he went out to Shanghai to set up his own publishing company, only to have it confiscated by the Communist government and ended up seeking refuge in Moganshan, a remote mountain village once favoured as a summer retreat by Shanghai’s missionaries. He fell in love with the place, stayed on,and now is a writer, running a western style café & guesthouse with his wife. China Cuckoo is published by Constable. |
