When the Forth Bridge was opened in March 1890 it was proclaimed to be one of the finest engineering projects of the day. Proud boasts were made of it's record breaking length and the high speed at which this awesome structure had been built.

But much less was said about the true cost of this scheme in human lives. The official number of fatalities was said to be fifty seven but evidence seen by Document suggests that figure was much, much higher. With the help of a local history group, piles of old 19 th century newspapers and the company's own accident books, Mike Thomson unveils a shocking story. He finds evidence of gruesome deaths, callous indifference and hints of a corporate cover-up.
