Elaine Kolios has custody of her two children by her Greek husband. It was a battle - sometimes frightening - to achieve this

In 1989 Elaine was in Greece setting up Marks and Spencers first six stores. It was there that she met and fell in love with George, a successful businessman. Six years later their marriage failed and, with two children, things became complicated.

Returning to the UK with George did not help the situation. After 6 months, George went back to Greece. Elaine remained behind to take legal advice on her options and then followed her husband.

Back in Greece, things went badly for Elaine. Eventually, fearful for her own safety, she left the country - with the children - and without telling George. It was a frightening escape but Elaine made it back to the UK and the comparative safety of her parents.

Then the police knocked at her door. They told her that she was in breach of the Haig Convention and was being charged with kidnapping her own children...
