Middle-Aged Groupie

ÌýListen on Monday

Wendy McAngus is catching up with lost time - she's become a middle-aged groupie...

Wendy McAngus wasn't the sort of teenager to camp outside rock bands' hotels singing their back catalogue until security moved her on. But now, at the tender age of 41 she has discovered that following rock bands around the country certainly beats reading about pensions. Her boyfriend John Stockdyke has become a little alarmed as he's witnessed Wendy slowly metamorphasizing into a middle-aged groupie - well, a middle-aged devoted fan anyway.

It started innocently enough with Wendy, when after hearing the band Moses play a particular song that she liked on the radio, decided to look them up on the internet to find out more about the music. From here she progressed to actually contacting the band themselves and begging them to appear in Brighton where she was able to meet them in person (easily enough done as John and Wendy were about the only audience at the gig). Now Wendy, with John in tow, attend each and every gig.

John has noticed other changes in Wendy: her wardrobe is becoming slightly more risqué with different outfits for wearing to Moses gigs; her CD and LP collection including every recording made by Moses; being overcome by fits of sighing adoration and staring moony eyed at the sight of her favourite guitar player in action... But John's not worried as Wendy insists that this is a 'hobby' driven by an interest in and enjoyment of the band's music and not anything at all similar to teenage lust!
