Developing the Past

Paula was 10 years old when her mother died at the age of 31... 40 years on photos none of the family had ever seen before came to light

Last Christmas, Paula was handed an old box camera by her father. Inside was a film which, it was thought, contained photographs of Paula's mother, Pamela on the last holiday they took together as a family.

The film had stayed in the camera for over 40 years, as Paula's father couldn't bear to have the it developed at the time of his wife's death.

Camera and film were handed over to Keith, Paula's uncle and Pamela's brother. No problem developing these, Keith thought, having spent years working in the photographic industry.

Gradually it dawned on him what an enormous responsibility it was. What if they were photos of the last holiday? What if something happened to them? He contacted a firm who speicalise in developing old films.

A few days ago, and after a delay of several months, Paula and Keith received a package containing the precious pictures...
