Margery had an idyllic childhood in the 1920's. She was the manager's daughter, living just beyond the gardens of the Earl and Countess of Plymouth's estate, St Fagan's in Wales. The castle's ornate parklands and walled Italian garden were Margery's playground as she grew up and her playmates were the head gardener's children - especially Andrew who was to become Margery's sweetheart and eventually her husband.
The garden in which they had spooned, fell into dereliction after the Second World War, and it was nearly 70 years before Margery was to see it again. That was earlier this year - when the restored Italian garden was opened to the public - and Margery and her family were invited back as guests of honour...
