The happy family portrait, Suzette, Michael and baby Amaiya

Suzette James and Michael McLean were excitedly awaiting the birth of their first child which was due to arrive on the 17th September - but as we know, things don't always go according to plan - as Suzette and Michael discovered two weeks ago on Tuesday 26th August.

Michael was getting ready for work as usual while Suzette started feeling contractions and timed them to 1 every 10 minutes. They thought it was probably nothing to worry about but thought they'd go to the hospital just in case. Michael thinks it might have been the speed bumps that helped the baby along her way as suddenly Suzette was doubled up in pain en route. Michael realized something wasn't quite right and as he put his hand down he could feel the baby crowning!

From here on in things got really exciting - while telling Suzette to 'hang in there' Michael swung into the bus lane, pulled up at the stop, hopped out - and in front of an audience - started delivering his daughter. Michael then guided the baby as she came out - he thought at one point she was in trouble - but she gave a little cry and they knew she was going to be ok.

A bobby showed up to help, and then eventually the ambulance - but Michael was allowed to cut the cord as he had already done all of the hard work himself! (not to mention Suzette's too!)
