Mervyn and the Brethren

Listen to the item

Mervyn Morgan had an unusual childhood in that he and his 9 siblings were brought up in the evangelical Protestant Christian church of  "The Brethren".  His life in a large "Exclusive Brethren" family meant that they were well provided for but anything joyful was considered a sin.

When Mervyn attended the local grammar school his eyes were opened to a way of life outside of his exclusive group, which eventually led to him making his own way in the outside world.

Mervyn doesn't complain about his upbringing but finds the fact that his family is estranged from him in adulthood much more difficult to deal with.
