When Father Peter Needham arrived 2 years ago in Grimethorpe to take over the neglected parish church of St Lukes he was shocked to find that 50% of his parishioners were out of work and that the average household income was just £8,000.
Father Peter didn't waste any time setting things in motion and got the ball rolling with a fund in which he hoped they would eventually raise £1.5 million - the amount they needed to redevelop the church, create a village hall and bring back their community's self-respect.
