Old debt

Whilst researching her family tree for a geneology course Rita Mellor discovered that in 1880 one of her ancestors, her great uncle John Hendry, had stolen 2 shillings from the Wells-next-the-Sea lifeboat collection box at Kings Lynn station in Norfolk. The labourer, who was only 16, was jailed for 5 years.

The money had been for the families of the 11 crewman who had died that year when the Eliza Adams lifeboat had sunk just off the coast of Wells-next-the-Sea. When Rita found this out she decided she wanted to repay the debt...
