Vicky and Manouchehr Haeri

Vicky Haeri

Listen to the item

In the early 1960s, the world was Vicky Haeri's oyster. Thanks to family connections in the US, Vicky had managed to obtain a green card, and after saving up enough to go travelling around the US, she boarded a Greyhound bus with her cousin.

Eventually they arrived in San Francisco where Vicky met and fell in love with a young Iranian politics undergraduate Manouchehr. Within a year the couple were engaged and started making their wedding plans. The invites went out and plane tickets had been booked by family members who were travelling from around the globe. It was bound to be wonderful. Or was it?
