The Today programme's commitment to in-depth coverage of environmental issues has been recognised with two accolades from the 2001 British Environment and Media Awards (or BEMAs).
This site has been named the Best Environmental Website, following our coverage in the past year of an array of 'green' issues. The topics featured include the Autumn/Spring surveys, our Bird Survey in conjunction with the RSPB, information on flooding across Britain, reports from across the globe on diplomatic developments regarding the Kyoto protocol on climate change, a special series of reports from the Antarctic by our reporter Richard Hollingham, as well as the day-in day-out coverage of environmental issues by specialist reporters Tom Feilden and Roger Harrabin.
When commenting on their decision, judges cited the impressive and attractive nature of Today's website, its visual clarity, good links, as well as the added value of maps and diagrams. They also believe "the content of the site went above and beyond what might be expected". The website is maintained on a daily basis by Today's Online Producers Gregory Stevens and Herakles Koumoullos.
Today reporter Tom Feilden also received an award for his 'Wildlife' series which covered an array of important environmental issues facing Britain. He took home the trophy for Best Radio Feature or Current Affairs Programme.
The BEMAs are awarded each year by WWF with Media Natura.
