Jenni holding the Suffragette sash Emily tried to put over the King's horse
The only suffragette killed in militant action

Emily Wilding Davison was aÌýleading activist in the campaign for women's suffrage in the UK. It is widely thought that she committed suicide by throwing herself under the King’s horse at the Derby in 1913. But the writer and political campaigner Barbara Gorna believes her death was an accident, and has started a campaignÌýfor this to beÌýacknowledged in a plaque toÌýEmily atÌýSt George's Church in Bloomsbury where her funeral procession started. She also wants a statue of her erectedÌýin Westminster. Barbara tells Jenni why she is campaigning on behalf of this remarkable suffragette.

The photo (right)shows Jenni holding the original Suffragette sash that Emily Wilding Davison tried to put over the King's horse during the race.
