A set back for women's equality?
When Turkey's new draft constitution was unveiled, it became clear thatthe hard won clause "men and women have equal rights" had been removed. Instead women are described as “a group in need of special protection” along with children, the disabled and the elderly. More than eighty women’sorganisationshave protested at what theysay is a major set back for women’s equality.
Jane is joined by Professor Nukhet Sirman of the Women’s Platform for a New Constitution and Gerald Knaus, Chairman of the European Stability Initiative to discuss the new draft constitution and its implications for Turkish women. |
