WhatÌýshould be the appropriate treatment for this condition?
Gender identity disorder, or gender dysphoria, describes the condition in which people feel trapped in the wrong body and gender. Children as young as four or five can be affected. New research shows that gender disordered children are being denied desperately needed hormonal drugs that can delay puberty allowing them more time to come to term with their feelings, and even to experiment with living as the opposite sex. But medical opinion is divided whether such treatment is appropriate, so how should doctors treat children trapped in gender limbo?
