Shirouk Alabayachi 13 Aug 2007
A prominent campaigner for women’s rights in Iraq joins Jane to talk about the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Shirouk Alabayachi is a prominent campaigner for women’s rights in Iraq and head of the Iraqiyat Centre for Social Studies, which analyses new trends in Iraqi society. She is also a founder member of the Iraqi Women’s Network, an umbrella organisation for 88 NGOs, and advises a number of international organisations such as the Global Fund for Women.

As violence continues to affect all aspects of life in Iraq, the humanitarian situation remains dire. Shirouk joins Jane to discuss the latest developments in the country and her campaigning efforts to increase women’s safety, access to basic services and political participation.
