Ìý Women in The Nation of Islam Thursday 9 August 2001 Ìý
The Nation of Islam, an import from the USA, is an organisation that preaches self-reliance for black people within an Islamic framework.

Last week the British High Court ruled that the Nation's leader Louis Farrakhan could visit Britain, despite his controversial attitudes towards race.
There is a strict set of rules governing female recruits in the Nation - they are expected to marry within it, give up work to look after their children and attend specially run classes on how to cook healthy food, manage household finances and educate their children.
So why is this deeply conservative regime attracting black British women to its ranks?
Martha is joined by Sister Maxine Mohammad, British member of The Nation of Islam, author Sonsyrea Tate, and Dr Martha Lee, Associate Professor of Politics, University of Windsor, Ontario.
Sonsyrea Tate is author of Little X: Growing up in the Nation of Islam (HarperSanFrancisco, 1997).
Dr Martha Lee is author of The Nation of Islam: An American Millenarian Movement (Syracuse University Press; ISBN: 0815603754, £15.50).
