The important role of feet in Indian culture
Here in Britain, we rarely go barefoot in the street. Most of us can easily afford to buy footwear and for most of the time it's too cold to risk exposure. But in eastern countries, feet are often on display, so women regularly decorate and adorn them.
In India, there are all sorts of rules and rituals regarding feet - it's seen as respectful to touch the feet of an elder -but it's rude to wear shoes indoors. ÌýClare Jenkins finds out more.
