How to wear the colour of the season

During her state visit to France in 1938, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, wore an entirely white wardrobe out of respect for the recent death of her mother. And it caused quite a stir.

Her designer Norman Hartnell captured a soft and impeccably elegant look which was to become the hallmark of her style for the rest of her life.Ìý

We'll be getting close up to some of those exquisite dresses at a new exhibition at Buckingham Palace, and exploring the popularity of white in fashion, including how to wear white this summer.

Jane Little is joined byÌýAnthea Jarvis from the Manchester Gallery of Costume andÌýthe Daily Telegraph Fashion Editor, Hilary Alexander.
