Words Working: Seamus Heaney and the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½

Available for booking

We’re celebrating Seamus Heaney and his long association with the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ in a special archive-based event as part of Book Week 2025.

William Crawley will host a wide-ranging Seamus Heaney-themed discussion with Fran Brearton, Patricia Craig and Charlie McCarthy.

And we’ll have a treasure trove of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ archive riches to share and enjoy, including a short ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ animation based on Seamus Heaney’s Nobel Lecture, Crediting Poetry (from December 1995) and a first opportunity to see a digitally restored version of Door into the Dark – Seamus Heaney’s remarkable ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½NI television debut from 1970.

This informal, small-scale event will last approximately 75 minutes.

Book Week 2025 (which is marking its 10th birthday) is a joint initiative between the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ and Libraries NI. It celebrates books, reading and libraries – and everything that they make possible.

A limited number of tickets are available and will be limited to two per applicant.

How to be in the audience

Step 1: Apply for tickets

Tickets for this show are being allocated on a first-come first-served basis, so when we receive your ticket request your details are added to the list of applicants. Tickets are usually dispatched from approximately three weeks ahead of the recording date.

Step 2: Receive a message

All eligible requests are allocated tickets in the order they are received, up to the maximum number of available tickets. If successful, we notify you by text message and send your e-ticket(s) to your email address. If unsuccessful you will be kept on the waiting list in case anyone cancels their tickets.

Step 3: Bring your tickets and ID

We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people. Remember that every guest must bring original approved photo ID.
