John Hellings gave up a proper job in the printing industry at a 'mature' stage in his life to pursue a dream of being a broadcaster.

He had freelanced for many years after cutting his teeth in hospital radio but he only went for the job after helping other would-be radio stars to make their demo tapes.
He got an interview himself and started by reading the racing results in a sports show, sadly he still hasn’t got a clue about racing!

John is one of these people whose hobby has become his job, but some might say that's an ideal situation.

He is well known in big band circles and has built up a loyal following of big band enthusiasts over the years.

John loves jazz and the big band sound, and you can hear him on Saturday evenings from 8.00 till 10.00pm on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Shropshire.
