Suspended
police officer Khan (Sanjay) and his colleagues Kaviraj Patil (Suneil)
and Javed Sheikh (Arbaaz), are facing a court trial for supposedly
killing gangster, Maya Dolas (Vivek) and his men in a residential
complex.
As
they recount the events of the bloodiest encounter ever witness
in police history to defence lawyer, Dhingra (Amitabh), they also
reveal how Maya's gang became so fearful and intimidating to the
public.
This
resulted in Khan forming a special squad carrying out the deadliest
encounter in a heavily populated Mumbai area.
Director
Apoorva Lakhia recreates the 1991 real life confrontation with precision
and does full justice with a classy and technically brilliant nail
biting climax.
Gruesome
scenes may not be for the faint hearted but Lakhia effectively portrays
both sides of the event leaving the viewer to decide right from
wrong.
From
the cast, it is Vivek Oberoi who gives an award winning performance
as the bemused Maya carrying a merciless smile when he commits a
crime.
This
is yet another reminder of the enormous talent Vivek possesses as
an actor.
Mr
Bachchan is a sheer natural as the lawyer and makes a full impact
in the courtroom scenes.
Tusshar,
Suneil and Arbaaz provide able support whilst Sanjay Dutt gives
his usual best.
Abhishek
Bachchan's brief appearance makes a high impact on the proceedings
but his role is very short and sweet as he is killed off in the
early part of the film.
On
the whole this thriller will receive mixed reactions at the box
office due to its horrific and gruesome scenes.
But
at the same time this thriller is stylishly made with realistic
technical effects.
Shootout
at Lokhandwala is for those who appreciated films like Kaante (2002),
Company (2002), Musafir (2004) or Zinda (2006).
