In a joint operation with officers from the Trading Standards, Wembley Metropolitan Police and the BPI, various trade premises in Wembley were raided during the night this week seizing illegal copies of the newly released film Om Shanti Om.

Being distributed in the UK cinemas, by EROS International, these illegal copies were openly on display for sale to vulnerable Bollywood fans.

The film, only released to the general public on Friday 9 November 2007, was amongst many other well known Bollywood titles uncovered in the raids.

Further investigations are under way to find the source of the supply.

BPI along, with law enforcement agencies across the UK and Europe, will continue to raid premises and take further legal action against people caught supplying and selling these illegal products.

David Wood, BPI Anti Piracy Manager said, "This highlights the importance of our continued work with law enforcement agencies in our bid to stamp out this illegal trade of pre-release film which severely harms the film industry."

Dilip Chudasama, Eros International said, "Selling and buying pirated DVDs is illegal and can lead to prosecution. Buy only original DVDs and say 'No' to piracy."

Om Shanti Om is currently riding high in the UK top ten charts, grossing an amazing £518,845 compared to its competitor, Saawariya which has only taken £160,985.

The Hollywood thriller Lions For Lambs has accumulated £658,282 at the box office but Om Shanti Om is expected to surpass this figure in days to come.
