It's August 2003 and life hangs in the balance for two teenage boys. A virus has attacked the heart of a Scottish boy called Marc McCay. Only 15 years old - he is slowly dying. Meanwhile further south an English boy is in grave danger. 16-year-old Martin Burton collapsed at home in Grantham at 2 o'clock in the morning and his mother has called the emergency services.
