Jane Garvey's Bottom Gear
Available for over a year
Jane Garvey explores the relationship women have with cars. First she takes a spin in a 1980s Fiat Panda (her first car) with motoring journalist Suzi Perry. Next Jane discusses the state of her own car with her local mechanic, then tries to buy a new one from one of the growing number of women working in car showrooms. After hitching a ride with racing driver Susie Wolff - Jane reflects on the macho world of alloy wheels and pin-up calendars. Will she ever be able to talk the torque? To aid the journey, Jane listens to some of the classic driving songs and talks to the writer of one them, 2-4-6-8 Motorway, Tom Robinson. Producer: Jordan Thomas A Trevor Dann's Company production for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 4, first broadcast in August 2016.
