A group of enthusiastic readers in Aberystwyth discuss 'Fundamentally' by debut novelist Nussaibah Younis; a dark comedy about an academic called Nadia. As an escape from heartbreak, she accepts a job with the UN in Baghdad, where she is tasked with rehabilitating ISIS women. In the camp, she meets Sara, a precocious, sweary East Londoner who joined ISIS at just fifteen. A powerful friendship forms between the two women and Nadia becomes dedicated to saving Sara, whether or not she wants to be saved. Fundamentally is an exploration of love, family, religion and the decisions we make in pursuit of belonging.
