Classical LiveAvailable for 4 days
An afternoon of compelling performances including highlights from summer chamber music concerts across Bavaria and there is a spotlight on orchestral works with solo viola. Introduced by Elizabeth Alker. Throughout the week, Classical Live is featuring specially recorded concerts from various Bavarian summer music festivals. Today, Trio Orleon perform Anton Arensky's First Piano Trio alongside music by Kreisler from the Oberstdorf Summer of Music. Plus, we will hear Hungarian inspired music by Zemlinsky and Farkas from Ingolstadt. Also, each day, an orchestral work with solo viola is showcased. Today, violinist Abigel Kralik, and violist Mathis Rochat join forces with the ѿý National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Howard Griffiths to perform two rarely heard works, Herbert Howells' Elegy for Viola, String Quartet and String Orchestra and Arthur Benjamin's Romantic Fantasy for Violin and Viola. And the programme begins with a concert hall favourite. The ѿý Scottish Symphony Orchestra are joined by pianist Stephen Hough for Rachmaninov's Paganini Rhapsody.
