Paddy O’Connell presents a special live programme for Remembrance weekend, with reflective interviews and musical performances. There’ll be tributes and dedications of remembrance from Radio 2 listeners and the presenter family, for serving members of the armed forces and those we’ve lost. This year has a particular significance as we mark 80 years since the end of the ‘war to end all wars’ in 1945. Paddy will share highlights of the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, building up to the full show on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One, which this year has the theme of ‘Service Not Self’. Paddy speaks to those involved in the event, from performers to the bereaved families. And Paddy marks the 80th anniversary of VJ day by meeting Captain Yavar Abbas, a 104-year-old veteran who captured the King’s and Queen Camilla’s attention and brought them to tears at this year’s commemorations. The music will be a mix of musical performances from the Festival, including from legend Sir Rod Stewart, 40’s big band swing and wartime classics including 'We'll meet again' from 'Festival' host Hannah Waddingham. Also, Paddy will play reflective songs to suit the occasion from artists like Mariah Carey and Alfie Boe. Producer: Miriam Williamson
