Thousands of American businesses are struggling to recover from the after-effects of the disastrous BP oil-spill. BP has set aside 20 billion dollars for compensation, in a fund called the Gulf Coast Claims Facility. The man in charge of it, US lawyer Ken Feinberg, tells Lesley Curwen that a quarter of the claims made have no documentary evidence to back them up, and some may be fraudulent. And is swearing unacceptable in the workplace? Jim O'Connor, the American author of 'Cuss Control' debates this with Yehuda Baruch, Professor of Management at the University of East Anglia. Plus, are performance appraisals worthwhile? Lucy Kellaway of the Financial Times says they are a total waste of time and should be scrapped.
