Evelyn is speaking to her mum, Elison (known to everyone as ‘Elsie’). Evelyn is the youngest of five, and the second of two girls. Having two daughters held great significance for her mum because it helped to ease the pain of losing her own two sisters. They died in the Bank Row bombing in 1940. The first daytime raid on the British Isles, Germany's intended target had been Wick’s harbour. Instead the bombs landed on the town and 15 lives were lost; 8 of whom were children. This event held repercussions for Elsie’s future, but also reinforced her love and loyalty towards her family, as daughter Evelyn discovers…
