‘Hitchcock makes living saints out of these women’

Woman's Hour

Available for over a year

Feminist author Camille Paglia discusses film director Alfred Hitchcock’s obsession with his female leads. Speaking to Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray, Paglia explores how and why Hitchcock sought to control the women who starred in his films, especially the beautiful former-model Tippi Hedren. Hedren played the lead in his 1963 film The Birds and became the object of Hitchock’s desire but refused to give in to his advances.
