This year’s Bafta and Oscar Nominations: a spotlight on South Asia?

Desi Nation

Available for over a year

So the 2013 Bafta and Oscar nominations have been announced and it seems South Asia is taking centre stage. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is up for the Best British Movie Bafta, and Ang Lee's Life of Pi is vying for nine Bafta and 11 Oscar gongs. Competing for four Baftas and five Oscars is Zero Dark Thirty, which follows the search and murder of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan. In this extract from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Lancashire’s Desi Nation, Raees Khan speaks to Dr Rajinder Dudrah, a Senior Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of Manchester, and asks what he thinks is drawing mainstream movie industries to all things Asian?
