A visit to Robert Burns' House

Pupils from Loreburn Primary in Dumfries visit Burns House where Robert Burns spent the last few years of his life, with his wife Jean Armour and family until he died at the age of 37. They are given a tour of the house by museum officer Fiona Wilson and shown some artefacts. They find out why as an exciseman, Burns may have needed a gun. They are shown the kitchen, the bedroom and the study where Burns carved his signature on the window with a diamond ring. Featuring excerpts from “An Extemporaneous Effusion on being appointed to the Excise” read by Paul Young and “The Banks of Nith” read by Shirley Henderson.
