Last year marked 65 years since India was given independence from British rule. But it wasn't until the following February that the last British troops left Indian soil, and Somerset played its part in this moment in history. The last regiment to leave the country was the Somerset Light Infantry who held a leaving ceremony at the Gateway to India in Bombay now Mumbai. The son of the Regimental Sergeant Major Kenneth Bartlett is retracing his father's footsteps by visiting India at exactly the time his father left.
