Mine to look after: Rachel and Edward

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

It is now 5 years since Edward received his kidney transplant at Great Ormond Street hospital. Now aged 18 year, Edward and his mum Rachel reflect on the night they received the call to let the family know there was a suitable match for his kidney transplant, just 3 months after he was put onto the donor register. Edward had already previously undergone major heart surgery and Rachel admits that having to make major decisions on her sons behalf was tough and that she sometimes doubted whether her decisions were motivated by his health needs, or her desire not to lose him.
