The first cut: Linda and Ruona

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

Linda and Ruona are two Black women from Nigeria who have met and married white men. Both are trained journalists and got to know each other through Facebook, where Linda has set up a number of groups offering friendship, advice and support to Black women who have white partners. Linda also has a radio show, talking about the subject, which attracts listeners from around the world. Ruona’s father was journalist, murdered for his investigative work. It hasn’t stopped Ruona wanting to tread the same path and she has just finished a journalism qualification and looking to work here in the UK. The pair discuss marriage, traditions and, inevitably, problems and prejudice. In this conversation they talk about the tradition of circumcision.
