Remembering Piper Alpha: Amy and Ian

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

Amy is 11. She's always known her dad Ian to be the owner of a coffee-shop in Aberdeen. What she didn't know is that prior to this, he'd worked on the Piper Alpha oil platform in the North Sea. On the 6th July 1988, 167 people died in an explosion on the rig. Ian lost many close friends and suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, prompting him to leave the industry for good. He shares his story with his daughter for the first time.
