Lawrence Scandal: Petition backs Inquiry call - Leicester

Dulcie Dixon

Available for over a year

More than three thousand people have signed a petition, backing the calls of Neville and Doreen Lawrence for a judge-led inquiry into claims of a police smear campaign against the family of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence. The allegations have shocked some of those the police are there to protect, prompting some to rally behind the Lawrence family for further justice. In this extract Carlton Howson, lecturer at De Montfort University in social policy and community, tells ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Leicester’s Dulcie Dixon it should go further than a petition. Pictured: Former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Paul Condon said he never "authorised or condoned" any smear operation against the family of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence.
