Mikey Powell Remembered: as police apologise to family - WM

Sunday night with Nikki Tapper

Available for over a year

A formal letter of apology has been issued to the family of Mikey Powell by West Midlands Police. It's been 10 years since Mr Powell died in police custody shortly after his arrest in Lozells, Birmingham. An investigation into Mikey’s death is still on-going, as is the family's fight for justice. A candlelit vigil took place outside West Midlands Police Headquarters on the anniversary of Powell’s death. It was followed by a memorial event at the Afro Caribbean Millenium Centre in Birmingham. Poet Benjamin Zephaniah (pictured, right), a cousin of Mikey Powell, attended both events and shares with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ WM’s Joe Aldred what the family have been through these past 10 years.
