Leading obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dame Josephine Barnes talks about the improvements in medical care for childbirth and cancer over the course of her career. She recalls her time in the obstetrics flying squad, the problems she saw when mothers were using powdered milk to feed their babies, and a woman who had a mastectomy in 1912. Dame Josephine Barnes died on December 28 1999.
