The large campus of the University of Leicester is a busy vibrant place with over 17,000 students. But during World War One, the site was used to treat over 74,000 soldiers injured at the Western Front. As the war progressed, there were moves to establish a living memorial to those who died. So, a university college was established to give educational opportunities for future generations.
