Dawlish storm-damaged railway line reopens

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The first train in eight weeks has run on the main railway line to the South West of England. It follows weeks of repairs and disruption after the line was badly damaged by severe storms. The winter weather caused chaos in parts of England and Wales, with the South West worst affected. A team of 300 people have used 6,000 tonnes of concrete and 150 tonnes of steel to rebuild the track and station, at a cost of around £35m. Sarah Ransome met local people in Dawlish.
