Addinsell and Coward

Composer of the Week

Available for over a year

Donald Macleod explores the music of Richard Addinsell and his close contemporary Noel Coward, who both composed songs and music for stage and screen from the 1920s to the 1960s. Donald Macleod begins by exploring Addinsell's musical collaborations with Joyce Grenfell and others. Then moves onto some of Coward's lesser known music, focusing on an operetta and ballet. Next, Donald Macleod explores the roles Addinsell and Coward played during The Second World War. And following that, Donald Macleod and Philip Lane look at the impact on both Coward's and Addinsell's music from their time spent in the United States. Donald Macleod concludes by looking at the film scores Addinsell wrote towards the end of his life, including music for a production of Ring Round the Moon.
