Stroke survivor: 'I had to relearn how to live life’

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Claire Whitehouse, who had a severe stroke in 2010 at the age of 19, said she had to learn how to walk and live life again. Her friend who had a transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or ‘mini stroke’ in her early 20s was able to receive treatment quickly, "recovered extremely well” and now “lives a perfect life”. The Stroke Association has warned thousands of people are putting themself at risk of a full stroke as they don’t realise they have suffered a ‘mini-stroke’. Ms Whitehouse, who is now 23 and campaigns for better stroke awareness said mini-strokes could be looked at “as a positive note because you can control it that way” and serve as “a warning sign”. This clip is originally from Shelagh Fogarty on 29 April.
