77-year-old Pat Cooper has barely left her home since 1966, because of her crippling fear of being outdoors which she described as “a horrible feeling, as if you were going to die". After missing out on holidays, family weddings, and days out in the park with her children and grandchildren, Mrs Cooper overcame her fear last week in order to see her grandson collect a British Empire Medal, because “it was a very special occasion” and she "thought it would be nice for him to see me”. Mrs Cooper who visited the venue in a car as "a trial run" beforehand said the treatments offered to her, including electro-shock therapy, were inappropriate. This clip is originally from Victoria Derbyshire on 30th April 2014.
