Sibelius: The Oceanides / Pohjola's Daughter

Discovering Music

Available for over a year

Stephen Johnson explores the varied moods and impressions conveyed by Sibelius in two of his greatest tone poems. The Oceanides (Op. 73) is a haunting seascape inspired by his first Atlantic crossing. Pohjola's Daughter (Op. 49) is a vivid fantasy inspired by one of the legends from the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. The musical examples and performances are provided by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic, conducted by Tecwyn Evans.
