Thousands of people are gathering over the next two days, to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day landings during the Second World War. It was an extraordinary military risk for the allied forces, with almost 160 thousand British, US and Canadian troops storming the heavily fortified northern beaches of France. Although thousands of lives were lost during the battle, it's widely seen as the moment the war turned in favour of the allies.
